Thanks to Annette Farrell for blogging about this opportunity on Spokane Arts Review. Sustainable September Eco-Generation is partnering with REIto host “Trash to Treasure, My Home, Tomorrow”. Artists are invited to submit works of art using found objects and recycled materials in a way that promotes sustainable living. Entries are due September 25th, and will be displayed October 3rd through 10th at the REI store on Monroe. Prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place will be awarded by REI on October 1st. For more info, please read the official announcement.
For inspiration, check out Recyclart, The Art of Recycling. I’m particularly in love with these recycled teapots posted by Neodim. If anyone knows of a local Spokane artist doing this sort of upcycling, repurposing thing, please post in the comments.

Thanks for the shout out! I love those tea pots, too. While I’m not particularly into making art completely from recycled materials, I tend to get most of my material second hand anyway. Garage sales and thrift stores, or Grandma’s basement. I’m planning a wedding, and so far most things are second hand. This partly to save money, partly a desire to incorporate real vintage and partly an excuse to get extra crafty and get into the DIY spirit.
I haven’t heard of this blog before, but I’m looking forward to reading more!
